"The Great Harbor Series is a season championship and will include a boat's scores, without discards, in the following races: Henry Reath Trophy, MDI 1-4, Hospice of Hancock County Race, Tom Morris Memorial (sponsored by MDICSC), and Far Out Challenge Cup. The Championship will be scored using the CHIPS 3 method of scoring which weighs results by reference to the number of competitors in a particular race. So, for example, a first place in a race of 12 competitors will yield a higher score than a first place in a race with 5 competitors.
See CHIPS 3 table on the GMORA web site."
In the inaugural year of the Great Harbor Series we had ten boats competing for the Cruising Class Overall Season Championship. Far Out captained by Hal Kroeger won the series with four first place finishes out of eight races. Commodore Bob Johnstone in Tern was less than 50 pts behind in the high point system with extremely consistent top scores. Sidewinder was expertly sailed by Tom Rolfes to a third overall really came on strong with 3, 4, 2 finish positions in the last three races. Flirt was helmed by Mike Cook had amazing consistency with four fourth place finishes this summer. Reiver which had its helm shared by Henry Brauer and his brother-in-law Steve Madeira also had 4 bullets in the course of the season but rounded out the summer in fifth overall as they did not compete in three of the five races.
