MDI Series Final Results

MDI Series Results thru August 8th

Does it get any better in MDI?

Seven boats came to the starting line off Fleet Mark A between Greening and Great Cranberry Islands. The course was out around Black Island, either way and back to Mark A. The breeze started at 8 knots and appeared to build as the afternoon went on. Three Luders races were held while the cruising race was gone over the horizon. It would be wonderful to hear from the competitors (and especially the winner!) about strategy with the current ripping out of Blue Hill Bay and the often calm spots between Black and Gott and Placentia. The course was 14.5 miles overall and Stew Craig recorded finish times and helped out all afternoon in the mark boat. Elapsed and corrected results attached. Congrats to the team on the Big Red Far Out Machine. They are on a roll and will be a force to reckon with next weekend at Downeast Race Weekend.

Series results are provisional as I really want to double check our scoring system for the whole series before making these final with discards where allowed.

MDI Series Results thru July 25th

A faint seabreeze began to fill in as the fleet assembled at Mark H for the start. It freshened to about 8 knots on a beat up to Q. A run followed with much of the fleet trying to squeeze into the anchorage at Gilpatrick for current relief. An interesting long beat followed with the fleet splitting on both sides of Greening Island on their way out to mark E. The tide was still ebbing out in the middle of the Western Way but was actually flooding along Grt Cranberry. As competitors turned and headed back to the mouth of the Sound, a small storm passed over and brought a freshening breeze from the west. Steve Madeira in Reiver won by a whopping 10 minutes over Commodore Johnstone in Tern as the RC had shortened the course to end it at P.
