Notice Board
Five Luders 16 boats with crews enjoyed low 60 temps and an incredible 8-12 knot southerly sea breeze. Today's races counted toward both the 4th of July Series and the July Series. There are 5 more Friday afternoons of the July Series but only one more race in the 4th of July Series. Monday will be the Henry Reath pursuit race around the Cranberries with Luders starting at 1330 after an opening cookout at the Fleet starting at 1115. There are ample moorings for those who keep their boats in SW Harbor to conveniently sail over, picnic, and then sail the race starting at Gilpatrick Ledge. Arrive hungry!
Today's action had incredibly tight racing with all the boats finishing within a few seconds of each other. Small moves put competitors in the passing lane and, similarly, small mistakes opened the door for someone else to pass. Otto and Bill Smith in their Freight Train fought back in every race despite being deep. Jim Fernald in his Seabiscuit could taste victory for the day but did a bit of shrimping at the leeward mark with their spinnaker. Dave Folger and Auria Mauras were consistently in the front with VooDoo. The entire Brookes family had Sweet Chariot leading in 2 out of 3 races but got worked by their friends on the downwind legs.
It's the start of a summer of fun again. The Monday marathon will decide the series.
